Websites for Kindergarten

A response to the overwhelming number of requests for websites designed to help your child practice their Early Literacy Skills, Numeracy Skills..and more!

ABCYa! - developmentally appropriate games focusing on letters and numbers.

PBSKIDS - This specific PBS page has their games organized by topic.  Simply choose what you are wanting your child to practice that day.  The topics range anywhere from letters and numbers to learning about feelings, healthy habits or team-work. (Some favourite games include: ABCD Watermelon and Dog's Letter Pit under the ABC Games category)

Scholastic Letter Games - Under the Scholastic website, I searched "letters" and was brought to this search page featuring multiple reading activities and games to practice literacy.  Leo the Letter-Loving Lobster is great for beginning letter sounds and introducing new vocabulary words.

IXL - This website targets math skills in Kindergarten and allows your child to practice those skills on the computer.

Kidport  This website allows students to practice Kindergarten skills in a variety of areas (Math, Science, LA..etc)

STARFALL - One of the students' favourite websites!  We like to use the ABCs link to practice our letters and letter sounds.

 READING

We have not yet begun our Guided Reading Program, but for those families keen on developing some skills early, these websites help continue the love of reading and give you an idea of certain words Kindergarteners should begin to become familiar with.

STARFALL

Dolch Word Lists - Resource to see common sight words throughout the grades (kindergarten would fall under the "pre-primer" and "primer" categories).

Tumblebooks - This website allows you to view and search a variety of online books, then have them read to you out-loud.  Pictures and interactive images are included!

How to log in:

1) Enter the website and choose the first column (eBooks for eKids)

2) Enter the username: langevin and the password: books

3) Enjoy browsing around

 TYPING

BBC Dancepad Typing - a fun site that allows you to practice typing musically
